From Joan and Mike

It has been 18 months since Johnia was murdered, but we're no closer to finding her killer than in the beginning. And even though a massive number of DNA samples have been collected, there has been no match to date.

On June 1st we met with Sheriff Tim Hutchison and found out that there is no new information coming in regarding Johnia's murder investigation at this time. So, we gave the Sheriff the petition containing over 2,000 signatures asking that he cooperate with America's Most Wanted in profiling Johnia's case. His response? No.

The Sheriff's impression is that airing Johnia's case on America's Most Wanted will bring in too many leads from other states, therefore placing a strain on the department. Mr. Hutchison also believes that the responsible person is still in the Knoxville area. So, where is the suspect? There isn't one.

Without new leads, how will Johnia's killer ever be found?

By way of the Office of Attorney General Randy Nichols, we have asked that the TBI assist in Johnia's case. We're currently waiting on a reply from Mr. Nichols.

Our only motive in this is to find the person who murdered Johnia. Statistics prove that the longer a case goes unsolved, the less likely it will ever be solved!

We will not give up in our fight to bring justice for Johnia.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. We need your help.

Sincerely,

Mike & Joan Berry

DNA Update, TBI and Food City

Johnia's parents travelled to Knoxville today to witness Gov. Bredesen's signing of DNA legislation which will add more technicians to help decrease the current backlog of DNA samples in Tennessee.

And, is it possible that the TBI will join in the effort to find Johnia's killer?

Also, Food City's CEO Steve Smith will be making sure that more people are aware of Johnia's case.

CDs left in the apartment

I wanted to focus again on the CDs found in Johnia's apartment. The discs didn't belong to Johnia or Jason, so the obvious conclusion would be that they were left by someone else, possibly the killer. If anyone has information about these discs, please call 865-215-2243 or email confidential@johniaberry.org or homicide@knoxsheriff.org

Also, a person posted anonymously sometime ago regarding the CDs. Here's an excerpt from that post -

"...I told them about a drug user that fits the description, he robbed me once, he had gotten away with stabbing one person I know of in the months before her death, and he is from Kentucky. I am pretty sure he had never been arrested yet, so there would be no prints to run. He drove a silver Camary with Kentucky tags and had an inheritance that he was blowing on drugs. It only came in payments to him, so when he ran out of the money, he robbed, and stabbed, people to get what he wanted. He used to hang out with the gay community that was pushing meth and cocain in the west side of town..."

If the poster, or anyone else with information about the person from Kentucky, would please email me at kebman@mac.com, I would greatly appreciate it.

America's Most Wanted

We're still asking for signatures in our fight to get Sheriff Hutchison to cooperate with America's Most Wanted.

If you'd like to help us, please click the link below and urge Sheriff Tim Hutchison to do what's right for Johnia.

America's Most Wanted Petition

To those who have already signed, thank you very much!

Joan will be interviewed on the Hallerin Hill show on Tuesday, June 6, during morning drivetime.

The radio station in Knoxville is WNOX 100.3 FM.

There was a bit of confusion for the Monday interview, so it has been rescheduled to the time above.
