Reward Offered in Johnia Berry Case

Press release from the Knox Sheriff's office.

02/10/05 FOUNDATION OFFERS REWARD MONEY IN JOHNIA BERRY HOMICIDE

Updated: February 10, 2005
For Immediate Release

The Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her death. An anonymous source has also added another $5,000 to the reward fund for a total of $10,000. The 21 year-old woman was found stabbed to death outside her apartment in West Knox County on December 6, 2004.

Carole and Juli Sund and Silvina Pelosso were the three women sightseers who were missing and later found murdered near Yosemite National Park in February of 1999. While they were missing, Carole Sund’s parents, Francis and Carole Carrington, at the request of the FBI, posted rewards both for their safe return and for information leading to the whereabouts of their rental car. The Carringtons believe that the posting of these rewards and the media attention they received, contributed to the car being located and gave them the first break in the their case. They were thankful that they had the financial means to offer these rewards and it’s because of this that they started The Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation.

This foundation was established to assist families such as the family of Johnia Berry who are in similar circumstances as the Carringtons in that Johnia is a victim of homicide. The foundation believes reward money can make a difference. As a result of the foundation’s reward money, suspects are in custody in five states. To date, the foundation has paid a total of $165,500 in rewards to citizens who came forward to share the information they had in these cases.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation. If you have any information, please call the Sheriff’s Office at 215-2243.
